Did some stuff to the coupe today

After reading a thread on the Corral I went out and purchased a PCV valve from a 1988 Thunderbird turbo coupe, part number EV-127-A. This PCV valve is desingned to work with boost and for the $6 it cost me I was definatly willing to try it out. I will post the results after some time to see if it helps with crankcase pressure after some miles.

Also I went to the junk yard last week to get a 3.8 taurus power steering pulley. After getting 2 pullers and not getting any off after about 2 hours of screwing with them I gave up.

Today when I was getting the PCV valve I asked how much for the pulley the guy replied with $14. I couldnt believe how cheap it was and that I waisted my time going to the junk yard to try to get one.

Thats $14 Canadian by the way so figure $10 US funds for a brand new pulley.

Needless to say i felt pretty stupid.

That's the funny thing about dealers, some little parts cost out the A**, while others are very reasonable. I've got a list of stuff I need to get from the dealer, just haven't got around to it.

BTW- make sure you let us know how that PCV works out.

Yeah if that PVC does the trick. It is the same size as the 5.0 PCV?

Ya the PVC valve is identical to the stock one in size and shape but on the inside it looks different.

It seems to be working I went to the track and made a few passes and my dipstick actually stayed in for once, I would say that it's doing it's job.

I've been looking for a part # for the Taurus pulley for a few weeks now... Thanks for supplying it Chuck!!!! :)

what will the taurus pulley do for us?

It is for when you switch to a larger crank pulley, it slows down the power steering to add life to the pump.

would the f150 crank pulley require it?

depends on the mileage and condition of your pump I guess.

I bought a new pump, mine was a little noisy so I thought I would just put the bigger pulley on it for insurance.

did you ever have your PCV spit out on you or was it just your dipstick? I spit mine during the dyno session, and bought a check valve from bowlinggreencustoms.com. I have not installed it yet, but was wondering if you had this problem. I might look into the TBird one if it's worthwhile.

Neil, I've had both come out on mine. Was right after I got the Novi on and was utilizing the plumbling as outlined with their install instructions. Switched to an open breather on the oil fill & that seemed to help. Would still occassionally push the dipstick out, so I hooked up a small hose clamp to keep the dipstick in place. Worked pretty well.

I may go with some sort of evac system that ties into the exhaust when I get that far...

My PVC has never poped out. Mind you that NOVI 1K on crack might be the reason. Im only seeing seven puonds of boost on a cold day.

Yesterday at the track it was 28*C about 86*F here and the car was only making 6#'s. Still managed a 12.00 at 117mph though, I need a tune the car is really rich I get alot of black smoke from the tailpipes.
