My friend has a vortech s trim, and its loud, but a different sound. I get people at stoplights asking me if its a gear drive. Man, the looks I get rolling down the main street.

Thanks. I was only able to see the one with the white lx. It almost sounds the same. Are the internals the same? What is a gear drive exactly?
Basically it's exactly what the name implies. The gear drive is the transmission of the supercharger. One gear (the large one) is mounted on a shaft that is driven by the pulley that you see on the front of your blower. The second gear is much smaller. This one is mounted on the shaft that the impeller is mounted to. You can see the internal gear drive of a Paxton Novi below. Notice the design of the gears with the angle the teeth are at? These are called Helical cut gears which are the same in principal as the gears in your diff. This design is very strong and operates quietly. The older Vortech's that used the V-1 case used straight cut gears, which although are very strong, make a heck of a lot of noise compared to the newer design that Vortech now uses and that Paxton pioneered. (Paxton was the first to use helical cut gears in their superchargers with the introduction of the Novi)Quote:
