Drop the A.C?

I was thinking about ditching the fully operational ac system from my 88 vert.. i live in jersey and i think i used the ac once last year, so its pretty much just taking up space in there.. the cars moderately modified and i plan on taking it further after college.. its not a daily driver but im afraid the second the ac it gone ill want it back.. anyone have any comments or experience? i cant do this alone... a man needs some support in this day and age..also is there a market for used ac systems? if anyones interested im easily persuaded...

I pulled mine along with the heat and all the crap under the dash. However, mine is slated for about 95% track duty and only street on rare occassions when I feel like "playing". Your best bet for selling it would be to do so locally, I think I was able to get about $100-150 for my complete set-up.

I think you'll like it gone. Opens up more room in the engine bay, obviously removes weight, but I again use my car occasionally on the street nowadays. But to be honest I wasn't using it at all when I drove my car daily and during the summer months it got up to 100+ . I just drove faster with the windows down :)

I agree with Hustler. I ripped all my A/C crap out because the heater core went out for the 3rd time and didn't feel like messing with it. It was over 100* for 25 of the 31 days in July this year. Just keep the windows down, use a knee to steer, and hold your sleeve open out the window and there is the A/C!! Ditch the dead weight.

I just ripped out the A/C too.

I ripped out everything ps, a/c, heater. I havent driven it like this, but I have no worries. I live in New Jersey as well, but my car isn't strictly street, it's likes mayb 15% street.

More room in engine bay, and a heck of alot of room un dash on pass side.... "nice room for msd :)

A/C and P/S are gone. if you live in the north you won't miss the A/C and if you run skinnies you won't miss the P/S. actually the weight off the nose really helped my 60ft' times.

I'm really curious to see how my car is gonna handle the track. I lost the weight of the complete a/c, heat and p/s. but I think I added a small amount with the block, the C-4 I'll eventually get will add weight and the 8 point roll bar added some weight as well. I dropped the weight of the 10 holes in the rear for some 15 x 8 Welds. So many changes it'll be like driving a new car.

I've been removing stuff in my engine bay and getting ready to paint it. I'm not getting carried away like you did(which looks awesome btw). I took the washer fluid res out and i got to thinking, i doubt that will be reinstalled. I'm spending alot of money on my shortblock here very soon and i've gotta lose some weight due to the 351. I was wanting to get a hood but it will wait.

I'm firm believer in that taking weight off the front off a drag car is as good or better than horsepower.

Damn. I must be the only one here keeping my ac/ps!
