race fuel
I might not need it at my boost level but I found a store here close that has 108 octane leaded race fuel. It's a Phillips 66 station. I asked the lady about the fuel, she had some stuff the owner had written down about it but I forgot the part/whatever number of the fuel, it said it was Phillips 66.
Only emission stuff left on the car is EGR so I don't think the lead will hurt anything, would this be good fuel to use as something like a 50/50 mix iwth 91 octane?
Anyone ever tried a little nitro methane in their car?
-
Try it. I try to mix as little as possible to eliminate the idea that one cyl might get 91 and the next might get 108. With the return line on our cars it mixes pretty good.
-
I wouldn't want to run it straight would I?
-
It's not gonna hurt anything. You won't have any pinging for sure. Try it 50/50 and go from there. I run it straight.
-
No issues mixing it, and it'll do alot more and be a hell of alot cheaper then the snake-oil "octane boosters" on the market.
At a 50/50 mix it'll put it around 99.5 octane..... If my logic serves me correctly
-
yeah, that fuel really kicked her in the butt :teeth:
smells good too
-
I wouldn't try and Nitro methane though. I don't think the fuel system is set up for it among other things.
-
I wasn't going to try nito methane, just wondering if anyhas...lol I read it doesn't mix with gas anyways.
With this half 108 half 91 octane I got my timing up to 10* from 6*. The right fuel obviously will help with timing. There's no signs of detonation but seat of the pants it feels weaker :freaks:
-
Higher Octane slower burn.
108 octane I would be at 32 degrees total and 15# boost, then you will feel it.
Your Combination even at 10psi should need no more than 93 octane and 21 degrees of total timing.
I would think you lost a high percentage of power even with your bump of timing.
-
interesting, I'll go back to 93 octane and 6*, it was running good then
-
How much boost are you seeing?
Are you still using stock pulleys?
You need a larger fuel pump and larger injectors and other supporting parts before you jump to anything like racing fuel.
-
Yeah, it's stock pullied and seeing 5#'s of boost. I set the timing back to 6* today and filled up with 91 octane. There's one place here with 93 octane, a Conoco station, but I don't think it's as good as Quick Trip's 91 octane. There's alot of low energy gas in this town.
