ysi is a lot bigger blower, if you can afford it, go with that.
I'd go with the YSI not only for the fact that it is considerably larger, but the hardware it comes is more race oriented and the T-trim is gear'd for the street in kit form.
You get the mondo discharge and bypass with the YSI and they are not cheap.
Will the YSi be lazy on the street with a nice stall and 3.55?
It should have no problems spinning tires @ 100mph on the street if it has power to go low 6's in the 1/8 mile. If you have it pullied to make big power it should hit the tires pretty good with the right converter. What converter are you going to run and how much does the car weigh? Tire size is 26" i'm guessing? Good luck in the 60' with 26'' tires. Blownby has the YSI on his car and I don't think he has a problem with it being "lazy".
The YSI is definitely not a "lazy" blower....that's just a myth.
I can give you an update in a few weeks. I will be running an AOD with a 3800 stall. I have a 3.55 rear gear. I have a 351 with the YSi and should be near 22-24 psi @ 6400RPM's
This setup should rock.
Car weighs 3050lb with me in it. I dont know about the converter yet. I was thinking a 3500stall but I will be using a 2 step with a 4800 stall off the brake. Tires are still up in the air. Whats the pros and cons of 26'' and 28'' tires?
Wow Mine weighs 3400 w/ me in it. You will need 28" tall more than likely with a 3.55 gear unless your planning on shifting well in the 7,000's.
I will be running the MT DR 275/60 15 this year. I can't get a slick to fit under my ground effects.
What about 3.31 gears with a 275/50/15 tire. Would that be about the same? Lookin to keep the revs under 6500rpms.
It is possible but don't know. I am not sure where I'll be exactly. So can't say for sure.
Blownby, how much weight do you think that the engine bay work you are doing will add. I am planning to do the same thing, but I was curious how much weight it would add. Thanks.
So far I have went through about a 2# roll of flux wire. Less than a pound of metal to fill the fill in the holes and probably a few pounds of filler. I'd say 5-6 pounds max, especially after all the grinding of the materials used.
Cool, looks like you are doing an excellent job. I have to admit, I really just don't have the patience for that type of stuff.
It actually hasn't been that bad. It has been like 4 evenings for 2-3 hours each of welding.( I have a buddy doing the welding) I am cutting and fabricating the pieces to fit the big holes while he closes the small ones. Then followed by me with an hour or so of grinding the welds down. Cutting the panels and pieces to fill the holes has been somewhat time consuming. I hope to have it ready to be painted by next weekend. I keep you all up to speed.
