here are some carnage pics of split block/briken crank
-
OUCH!!!! I feel for you amigo, thats GOTTA hurt.
this is the second SBF that I have seen like that. what causes this? is it too much tension on the crank or did something let go on the bottom end or ???????? do you have a cogged setup or Serp?

There is not a lot of material in the lifter galley on the production cast 302's . There is a lot of pushing and pulling forces in that area in a v8 configuration, so it seems a lot of the blocks split straight through here when they finally do yell mercy. This is pretty common once you start reaching the 600 flywheel hp mark.

its the result of too much power coming from the stock block and internals, i was at 510RWHP prolly more when this occurred. what hustler said is totally accurate. i kept the RPM's 6000 and below and the A/F when this occurred was at 10.8

Another 500 RWH combo and stock block carnage. Seen a few of those around here.....
Now you have an excuse to build something faster......Woot!!

Awesome, simply awesome :)

 the funny thing is i think the only thing holding the block together is the bell housing

I've got 2 of those, but now I have a r302.

Stuff like that makes me happy I have a tank of a big block. Now days you can get 500 HP out of a bottle, on top of what the motor is making.

Welcome to the club. My last 302 split the same way. Now I have an SVO351 block that's got a little stroker in it;).

Impressive Scott!!! Do you have something new picked out yet?

well im definitely doing a 331, not sure what block im going with yet, either a DSS level 20(still stock block but more affordable) or a Keith Craft Dart sportsman based 331 or a R302 based 331, the difference in price with the Dart or FRPP over the DSS is huge, i just dont have that much cash to lay out. I'll prolly just go with the DSS level 20 331 and keep it around 550rwhp with a nice 11.5 A/F

I would save for the Dart or R302 - I do not trust the D.S.S.

What about a BB&T Stroker motor? You can upgrade their stroker to a sportsman block for $800 or the r-302 for 1800. The stroker 331 with a sportsman block would be like 3199.
