how much boost on stock bottom end?

how much boost when properly tuned can i run on a stock bottom end? i bought my car with everything done already and the guy doesnt think when the motor was built that the rods, pistons and crank were changed. i have an 87 gt with heads, cam, intake and novi 1000 supercharger that should be making somewhere in the mid 400 hp range, this will be my daily driver and will continuously see daily thrashing and high rpm abuse up to about 5700-6300. i want to know how much boost the motor can take reliably for a good 30,000 miles at least. without blowing anything internally, the internals have at least 100,000 miles on them if they werent changed but the rings are new. whats the most boost and hp level i can throw at it to keep it reliable?

It's not how much boost it can take but how much power it can take.... Your stock components are pretty strong, it's the block thats weak. Anywhere from 400-500 is your questionable area. I cracked my mains at just over 400rwhp. But people are making over 500 and still are fine. To answer your question, it's up to you on the amount of boost you want to make, I know when warrenty's up on the blower I'm gonna spin it to it's max.

I have seen people putting down 500+ rwhp with a stock block and stock internals (upgraded to a 306 forged pistons). A girdle was also being used.

what about reliabilty though, how long have those combos lasted? also -sinner what kind of pulley/ crank pulley setup are you running to get 8 psi? im looking to get 9-12 psi and wondering what it would take.........

Your gonna have to void warrenty to get those kinds of numbers....I'm using an 8" crank and powerpipe

I have seen one combo last well over a year (before it split the block) I'm not saying that it will last forever, but with a good safe tune, it can be done.

Hey i was told that if i run 14lbs of boost to my 89 gt that i will blow the head gaskets right off of my car b/c i have stock heads by a performance shop. Is this true? Thanks

I've had my combo together for about a year now.
I run 14lbs of boost, I make 505 rwhp and run 11.0's and I have yet to have a part failure.
I also have a 100% stock 20,000 mile short block.

whistler, what combo are u using to see 10 psi? also anyone had experience with the f- 150 / 2.75 combo? any belt slip?

Single belt Novi, 2.75" blower, F150 crank. Stock longblock. I haven't run it since the addition of the 2.75" and F150 but I saw 6 psi with the stock pulleys. I figure I'll be around 10 psi now....maybe a little more, maybe a little less. I'll know by the end of May and then I can comment on any belt slip problems as well.

If the 2.75" and F150 don't get me 10 psi, I'll throw a power pipe on it.

How much your stock bottom end all really depends on the tune. With a safe tune your bottom end will last a LONG time.

Silverstallion...I see 10# of boost w/ my 2 belt novi 1k (3.25 blower pulley and afm powerpipe).

blown 5oh, how what size crank are you using? also does output vary with the same conbination of a single belt compared to a double belt setup?

5liter, whats your H/C/I combo? Cause I made 434rwhp with 7psi, a 10.8:1 A/F and conservative timing. Stock pullies and a powerpipe. Do you have a 1 belt or a 2 belt Novi? Ran 11.77@117 leaving the line at ldle. I then stepped up to 10 psi(no dyno #'s) and went 11.28@123 leaving at 2000 rpms.

FWIW if you set up a conservative tune @ 7-8psi, with high quality parts and a stock shortblock with no issues, it will last a long, long time. I should have my head examined for even pulling mine out last year.

I believe both the single and the twin belt set-up's share the same 3.54 step ratio (internal gear ratio)...........so yes the output variables will be equal depending on pulley diameters.

I'm still using my stock crank pulley....I might switch to an 8" crank soon, and possibly 3" blower ( I just hope I don't overspin the blower). With that I should see close to 14#.

I'm not too familiar w/ the 1 belt system, so I don't want to givfe you wrong info. Sorry.

regatta not sure what u mean by h/c/i combo but im running the stock crank and blower pulley now and seeing 4.5 psi

frank your seeing 14 psi without a different pulley from stock?

heads cam and intake............btw a 4" power pipe and a quality large meter is worth at least 1.5psi..........I seen a solid 25hp on the dyno when i did my powerpipe.

No, I have a custom made 8" ASP crank pulley and a
3" S/C pulley, a 4" power pipe and a 80mm mass air meter.

I'm not really sure.........but I know its not a low 11 second bike.
I ran my friend who's on my bike and is a very good rider 6 different ways with me in my stang and I beat it all 6 times. We tried from dead stops and different rolling speeds.
Then he wanted some with his 01 GSXR600 and I took him also.
But my other buddie with a '01 NINJA ZX-7R (which is a 750)It has a cold-air intake,sprocket and slip-on muffler......He got me ! :(
