Need Advice on my 347 with Vortech S-trim

Current set-up is:

347
S-trim with 3.12 pulley
ported TW heads
Edelbrock Perf intake
42# inj
TFS stsge 1 cam
C&L 76mm maf (in engine bay with a heat shield around it)
70mm TB
dyno-tuned autologic chip (old tune for old Powerdyne blower that was on there - 412rwhp SAE back then, car picked up 4-6mph in the 1/4 with the Vortech)

THe car is in the shop getting the Lentech AOD rebuilt.

The car runs perfectly, but a bit rich, I know there is more power to be had with a new tune.

Here is the question:

I have 2 options -

Do i swap out the C&L for a pro-m maf and do a 4" powerpipe and get a new tune - obviously the powerpipe will add some power and maybe the Pro-M also. Am I risking my current perfect driveability and idle by swapping to a pro-m and powerpipe???

OR

Do I just leave the car as is, C&L (heat shield) with stock Vortech 3&1/2" flex tube and leave a little bit of rwhp on the table. The C&L will not work with a powerpipe, I have tried it twice.

The car as is has run a 11.8@122+ with no traction (1.99 60') on old worn out Nitto DRs - on the street it beat a 11.0-11.2 Vette (h/c/125 shot) by a car length from a dig in this trim.

It now wears sticky BFG DRs which should shave the 60' time to at least 1.8 making solid low 11s at the track easy, with a leaned out tune high 10s to low 11s should be possible on DRs.

Any advice, opinions, or suggestions would be appreciated.

I also have a billet belt tensioner that needs to be installed (I think the belt is a little loose), but I have to relocate the blower on the mounting bracket or the mounting bracket itself to do this, just a time consuming pain in the butt.

I also have wondered if a 2.95" blower pulley would take me past the limits of the 42# injectors, I really don't want to go past the 42# limit.

Howard, why won't the C&l work with the power pipe? What pipe are you using? If it's a problem with the connector to the pipe you can get different ones. If it runs that nice(drivability) I wouldn't change the meter. Could you post some pics of what you have and maybe I could help you out better.

I've tried a UPR powerpipe twice.

Last time it idled OK, but it would jusr sputter on low rpm acceleration, it seemed OK at WOT.

I don't have any current pictures.

Thanks for the help, I think I will end up with a Pro-M and powerpipe and just be done with it.

I use the C&L 80mm with Power Pipe for years. Did you try clocking the meter little by little?

It jusr seems many people have issues with the C&L, if I can avoid the hassle and just do a Pro-M and Powerpipe I will, I hate to spend the extra $$$, but I'll do it.

Read some current posts on all the Mustang sites and you will see Pro-M has problems also. I would first try clocking what you have and if does not work then get a Pro-M.

After the car gets back from having the tranny rebuilt, I will see how it is running as is.

It already makes a TON of power, more than the BFG DR tires can handle.

I can always throw it on a dyno with a/f for like $150 just to see how bad it is (rich) in current tune and how much power it is making before making a final decision.

When I first got the car it had a Powerdyne BD11A on it, it had 3&1/2' flex hose running to the C&L in the fenderwell and it ran perfectly, ever since the Vortech I have not been able to put the C&L in to the fenderwell with a Powerpipe, maybe with flex hose it would be OK, as it is more flexible and I could move the meter around more. The old flex hose was ruined, I would have to buy more.

I still think I will end up with a Pro-M, 4" powerpipe, and a new dyno-tune, but you never know.

I have a Power Pipe and the huge 80mm in the fender and it has tons of room and it is easy to put your hand in the old air filter opening and move the meter around to clock it.

What kind of powerpipe are you running????

If your prepared to shell more money for a pipe and meter why don't you have a chip burnt for your car.

The cast Dallas Mustang unit and I have seen the UPR unit it is shaped just like mine and if the UPR unit would have been made 2 years ago I would have purchased it just because of the weight savings.

I have a dyno-tuned autologic chip already, I am going to have it redone on a real time dyno to maximize my combo.
