FMU question

I know this may sound like a silly question, but how is the FMU supposed to route? I mean I know the two fuel lines run to and from it, but in what order? The FMU is not labled and I know the instructions say the fuel line with the regulator goes to the "in" side of the FMU. I have a SN 89 and the FMU is red on top, so which fitting is the "in"? I know it sounds silly and I think it is right, I just want to be sure.

Would the car run if they were wrong? Just cirious. Thanks for letting me ask silly questions. I guess that is how we learn, right!
