Is this casing trash - Eaton M62

My Eaton M62 started melting belts so i decided to tear it down and inspect. Looks like the bearings are shot but my question is if the casing is re-usable? Pics below...

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the problem you're having with your M62.

Are the groves deep enough to catch a fingernail on? They look quite deep in the photos but sometimes photos can make surface scratches seem worse than they really are. If those gouges are deep, then the casing may very well be scrap; I know the tolerances between the casing and the impellers of a roots-type blower are extremely tight in order to make (and maintain) boost.

The Pics do make it look worse as there is a load of crud in the grooves. I guess for the sake of $20 it has to be worth a punt on some new bearings.

I agree. Get some new bearings, reassemble, and try again.

However, I think I would be a bit more concerned about the impeller edge's themselves. Do they look as badly scored as the casing?

It might be worthwhile to get some very fine emery cloth (upwards of 800-1000grit) and consider lightly cleaning up the surfaces on both the casing and the impellers (if they are scored, that is) a bit. You'd have to be very careful not to remove too much material though.

I will try get some pics up tomorrow of the impellors, they didnt look too bad which is why i didnt stick pics up originally but i get what your saying about the emery cloth, dont want to take too much as tolerances are so fine.
