    Another hello from Scotland

    Hi
Its unlikly you have seen anything like this in the US, mainly because its 3 cars into 1, In brief: Ford Sierra Cosworth floor pan, grafted to a Ford Mk1 Escort, with Ford Mondeo Duratec 2.5 24 valve V6 engine the car is also fitted with the full leather interior from the Mondeo, its a very unusal car over here in the UK never mind the US.
But the reason I'm on here is I'm going to Supercharge it, and here in the UK that's just not done, but in the US you have more knowlege of fitting up Superchargers to varios engines, however this engine I believe is common place in the US, so the thought is someone over there will have done this to one of these engines?

P.S. Escort, Sierra Cosworth, Mondeo, are all models of Ford cars sold in Europe, It's likely you have the same but have different model names for them?

Hi and welcome to SCH Alan!

Great looking car - I've always loved the old Mk 1 Escorts. Damned near impossible to find one (even in a museum) over here in North America.

The Mondeo was indeed sold over here, but it was marketed as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique twins. I'm sure the 2.5 DOHC V6 engines in those cars were very potent performers. In fact, it was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list if I'm not mistaken, and was jointly developed by Ford and Porsche.

Unfortunately I'm not sure as to how popular the Contour and Mystique were as performance platforms though. However, I believe that same engine was used in the last generation Ford Probe and Mercury Cougar (I don't think either of those vehicles made their way over the pond), so if that's the case then performing a Google search for those might yield some sources for forced induction systems that will fit your application.

Of course, you could also ring up Noble and ask them how they twin turbocharged the Duratec V6 engines in their M400s… its the same engine that's in your car and it might give you some sort of starting point as to what might need to be upgraded/changed in order to handle the added boost.

Are you thinking of going with a centrifugal type supercharger or leaning towards a fixed displacement (ie. 'Roots' type) blower?

Do keep us posted on your progress regardless of which method of supercharging you choose.

    Hi Michael
Yes the cougar and probe made it over here fitted with the 2.5 Duratec V6 but was not popular, on the other hand the Mondeo V6 3.0L is in spite of fuel at nearly £7.50 a gallon. these engines you can pick up for £200, if it were a Cosworth engine it would be nearer the £6000 mark, price was the sole reason I went the V6 route and is sounds the nuts. All that has been done to the engine was removed all the planet saving stuff (ERG system)from the engine, made up a different exhaust system with no catts, but the biggest change was I installed a Megasquirt engine management system from the U.S which is completely mappable in every way, the result is the engine goes very well especially in a light car (900kg).
I am in the process of fitting up the Eaton M45 supercharger from a Mercedes SLK230, not looking for a huge amount of boost, 2 to 6psi would do, also I have no room for a Intercooler, therefore thinking of going water/methanol injection on boost only, anyone on here running this system? also going up to a 70mm throttle body from the standard 57mm, I'm just guessing all this because nobody over here supercharges anything it's all turbocharged, but I feel this engine would benefit the supercharger because of it's over square design and slow air intake speed below 4000rpm where the blower would help greatly, well that's the theory, will let you know how things go

Hi Alan, I was well surprised to see a fellow Scotsman on here, and I see that your in Earlston ...... so your only about 25 miles from me in Auchencrow! Small world huh.
I agree with your statement re supercharging in the UK, its rarely done outside of production motors.... everyone seems to go the turbo route (not sure why this is the preference though). So perhaps see you at some of the Scottish classic cars shows in 2015!

Well it's a small world indeed, can't say i've seen your Scimitar around at any shows in the area? I bet It goes well, my Escort is handfull with the V6 up front, I really don't need to Supercharge it, I just look for crazy things to do in the winter months, but getting technical info is difficult, so I usually end up just making it up as I go along, and for the most part it seems to work out in the end.
Keep in touch and might catch up with you at a show, first one locally is Kelso in May.
