Intercooler Works Even Better Than I Thought!!!!

Put the car on the dyno yesterday and we measured (with a fluke) both the blower discharge temp and the temp of the air prior to entering the throttle body (post-intercooler). These temps were recorded by 2 separate temp gauges at the same time. The discharge temp was about 275 degrees and the post-intercooler temp was an astounding 115 degrees during a 440 rwhp pull on the dyno!!! Ambient temps were about 74 degrees and we were using a strong fan but of course the fan was not even coming close to simulating the air flow generated by a 100mph+ pass. I know others have performed this testing but I was always skeptical that they could work that well. My buddy who runs a 9 second vorteched mustang was very surprised as well and it was his equipment we were using to log the temps. He's always giving me sh!t about having a procharger, but he was impressed with the intercooler. Just thought I'd share.

Wow! I new they worked but I didn't think they were that efficient. What blower are you running and is it a 2 or 3 core I/C??

I run the D1-SC and have the standard 3 core intercooler (not the sheetmetal intercooler). I wouldn't have believed that they are that efficient either if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

terrific news. glad to hear that. i just installed a 3 core sheet metal new procharger intercooler. custom fab'd tubing and intercooler weren't cheap, but good insurance and more power. glad to hear the 3 core is working well. hope i can get as good or better results with the sheet metal intercooler.

Wow those are impressive numbers. I I had a question,
If it's not the sheet metal type intercooler, what's the other "type" of the 3 core ATI makes? And which one is supposed to work better?

procharger has a two core and 3 core with cast end tank design aluminum. they also make a sheet metal 3 core whcih has larger end tanks and 3.5" inlet/outlet. the 3 core sheet metal is the all out race version and is suppose to be the best model procharger sells, but as long as the end tank design is not a restriction, a 3 core is a 3 core as far as efficiency goes.

    hope that helps.

check out the procharger.com website. they have a pic with all 3 in one pic.
