Welding peeps get in here!! Tell me if this custom blower pulley will work.:)

Ok here is the deal, I am running an old style single belt Novi 1k so in order to spin the blower faster you have to change either the crank pulley or the blower pulley. I don't want to change the blower pulley because it will void the warranty.

I am currently using an F150 crank pulley which is 6.5"(stock is 6") in dia and produces 7.9PSI at 6K on the dynojet.

I found a 7.25" 6 rib crank pulley from another ford but it was a dual pulley and the crank face to pulley spacing was way off from a stock mustang, F150 setup. I cut the add on pulley and the hub out of the big pulley and now I need to know if it is feasable cut the hub off of my stock pulley and have it tigged to the larger pulley nice and true.

What do you guys think. Is this worth my time? A custom pulley of any kind from ASP is in the neighborhood of 250 plus. If I could get this welded up nice and true and strong for under a hundred bucks I would be the envy of all Novi 1k owners.:)

Yeah ross I know that for sure. This would be done in a machine shop and not on the home workbench.

I figure if I could not get it to within .010" in a radial or axial planes I wouldn't trust it.:)

A cobra water pump pulley would also be needed.

Well, the only thing to do is try it out and let us know how it goes ;)

This is a great idea Steve.

I know the pulley your talking about, I saw it on a 3.8 thunderbird I think.

Would the pulley need to be balanced as well as true?

Well chuck I'm no expert but I would say that if the pulley is true in both axis than balance will not be a problem. There simply is not enough mass there to come any where near the weight of the rest of the rotating componants.

To the best of my knowledge the factory in no way balances these sheetmetal pulleys.

I think you'll be fine without balancing it. Unless there's a ton of bead on one side, and very little on the opposite side, I think you'll be ok. Worst case is you put it on, see it wobble and then balance it.

Ok the pulleys are at the machine shop and should be done by end of the week. The guy new what I wanted and said he could hook me up for about two shop hours of labor. Not to bad at all so we'll see what happens.

What does two hours of labor equate to?? Not even sure if I could locate a proficient shop in my "po-dung" little town.
