    D-1SC upgrade from a P-1SC, Qs...

I got a 99 cobra pulling 456 at the rear with a P-1SC. Been running for 1 year. I have decided to forge the internals and also bore the 281 by .020" over.

I heard that an upgrade is like 1200-1300 dollars. Is this close?

Also, is the 6 rib setup Ok for a D-1SC or should I replace all pulleys and run an 8 rib setup? Thinking 12-14PSI and concerned with belt slippage at high RMPS.

check superchargers online they will sell you a d1 head unit, I think the brackets are the same. the head unit is about 2200. I would go with the 8 rib setup.

How much boost do you plan on going with. If its anything like 15-17psi I wouldnt even go with the 8-rib. Personally i would upgrade to a 12-rib pulley setup to reduce belt slippage.

We made right at 600 rwhp with a D1SC at 21psi on a rods/pistons 97 Cobra last summer. It was on the stock 6 rib drive although it was a challange to get the belt to not slip. I would reccomend an 8 rib drive and possibly either selling your head unit and buying a D1SC or sending it to ATI to upgrade. Check out Steeda as they have an 8 rib upgrade as well (its for a vortech but most of the parts should work)

I call this AM and ordered an 8 RIB set, but the more posts I ready around this forum , I am now second guessing my choice over going 12 RIB....

Carlos, BTW, Randy seems like a very good guy. Enjoyed talking with him.

one down for the 12 rib is it is NOT legal in any NMRA class except open comp. so if you plan to run in any class you should check the rules very carefully. ken

Anyone know the cost of getting the 8 rib set-up? Also who sells the 12rib set-up and what's the cost? Finally, is there much of a selection in sizes for 8 rib and 12 rib serpentine belts? Thanks guys.

    Some info.

I took Carlos's advice and ordered an 8 RIB Setup from Universal Ford Baltimore. Give them a call, ask for Randy in parts. Price was $255 for my 99 cobra.

Have not looked into the belt yet. I sure am hoping they are available via any autoparts store.I assume it will be the same length as my 6 RIB belt.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are much fewer belt sizes available in 8 rib as opposed to 6 rib. I checked with Gates and they don't carry the size I need for my set-up on an 8 rib belt (I need 103" belt). I'm checking to see if the goodyear gatorbacks come in that size but I'm doubting that they do if gates doesn't make one. Hopefully they'll make an 8 rib in the size you need.

Been a while since I shreaded a belt since I got a new tensioner.
I think I got a 115 inch 6 ribt Gates. This could an O SH@T if no belt.

    Anyone running at 8RIB, D-1SC, 1999 or 2001mustang cobra?

I found the belt I needed at NAPA. They had to special order it. 8 RIB and 115"

8RIB pulleys arrived from Universal today. Carlos are these just the pulleys from a lightning truck? Thanks for the tip. Price was $225.00

Also sent my P-1SC head back to ATI and I will get back a D-1SC the cost was $1,180.00.

With these 8 and 12 rib pulleys, which ones are included? You cant swap all of your pulleys for 8 or 12 rib ones can you?

    Thanks for the help,
    Jon
