    Engine help

OK. I have the trans, bell, clutch and flywheel out.

The rear seal is in place, but I think I have a MAJOR problem!
I can put my finger in the pilot bearing hole and move the crank in and out and up and down about 1/8" or more in any direction!

That IS the crank that the flywheel bolts directly to, right?

The balancer doesn't move in and out with the rear of the crank!

    Did I break the crank?

Please help me if you can.
None of my books provide a clear view of the back of a crank( Just in case it is two piece at the back. )

Amazingly the block and rods all had bearings and are fine.
    The engine still ran!

Only the crank has visible damage.

I will get a quality crank, rod bolts and a cam at the least. I may do rods and pistons too.

Amazing... I would have never figured it would work, I don't even see how! Get everything checked over real good before you go putting it back together, you never know with damage like that what could have happened.

    It's not fixable.
I'll post the list later, but I had a friend that is a Ford heavy line tech look it over.

    Wow!
    I've been gone a while!
Two years later and it's back on the road.
It's a whole new engine now:

    Keith Craft forged 331
    F-cam
    Holley sys2 intake
    E-brock heads

It put down 463 with the 36#'ers and was lean up top.
I now have 42#'ers and will dyno again this sat night.
It still has the tune for the old combo though.

It's good to find this place still here!
