    I made mine, it is not a spring loaded, and It worked a lot better than the original one with the spring.

    Grind the ears off of the tensioner would probibly mean to grind the lip on either side off of it, but I have never seen a tensioner eat belts before, tensioners that have lips generally have oversized pulleys.
