    FWIW, I was able to keep the belt on with the 77/27 pullies.

    I think the misalignment was it!

    re belt problem

    yo;guys i've had alot of time with vortechs,my friend had a j-trim on the drivers side mount he too had the same luck,even wiyh the blower brace from the pullie to the crank,our problem was that the motor was rattailing or detonation,see if you to agressive with the timing this will toss belts even rip them apart,try backing the timimg of for one pass an see if it stays together that was our fix.
