    oil pressure drop under boost???

seems like the guage drops two or three notches when i get on it, not all the way to the bottom but enough to concern me. still have the factory gauge, canton 7 quart pan, new pump shaft, etc. running 10/40 oil as recommended. Im thinking it might be too thin, the ohter day it overheated to 240 and probably baked the oil, this is when the gauge started this.
    any ides????

I run 20W50 synthetic (redline or mobil 1) and never had a problem. Then again, I have high compression and low boost (6psi).

oil pressure is supposed to rise with rpm to a point. At least mine does.
89 Coupe with parts stacked inside of it and about 30#'s of dust on it with no end in sight. :weird:

    Although I am collecting parts for a 12.5:1 393 :D

Yes it should rise..you cannot trust a stock gauge.

    Hello,

Seeing how this original post started 4 years ago, do anyone have any new suggestions?

I have the same problem. Stock gauge, but it seems to be working fine.

    1990 Mustang 5.0L with Novi 1000.

Oil pressure drops significantly under full boost.

    Thanks

Stock sending unit is not calibrated and either is the gauge. It is a warning light with a moving needle. Don't base your oil pressure on this gauge if in doubt get a real gauge or a oil pressure sending unit that is a kill to the ignition if it drops to 30psi(Example). You need to remember that your feeding oil to the blower which is taking some of your pressure of that sending unit away since it is now flowing past the sending unit.
