    tach stopped working! any opinions...?

Today my tach stopped working. I didn't get a chance to check to see if there is any volts comming from the MSD or not. The lights work the preset shift light works. When I start the car the arm on the tach shakes a little but than doesn't move. Is it the tach or do you think the MSD box isn't sending any power?

    Thanks

HMMM, if all else fails try wiring it up temporarily w/o going directly into the MSD.

I can't get the damn lights to work on mine but I think I may have forgot a ground wire when I put the damn dash all back together.

I will do that to test it out... Where do I connect it? To the distributor somewhere?...

    Thanks

according to Autometer's site the green wire from the tach hooks to the neg side of the coil.....But I'll be damned if I can recall which color wore off the coil is negative, lol.

nah the negative term. didn't do anything I guess it is the posotive term. I guess I would need a tach adapter to do that or somthing. But anyway now I am certain the msd box needs to go back for that to be fixed. I already called them and they said thats nothing and there were a few that came back for that, but thats cheap to fix.

It's the neg side as per autometer's website (PDF File)

If it was the MSD then the tach would work when connected to the (-) side of the coil, no adapter is needed I just spliced into mine prior to my msd intall.

I'd double check the wiring for the entire tach.

hmm this doesn't make any sence...

1: when connected to msd box "does not work" "used to but not now"

2: when connected to + term of msd coil "not stock" "it works, but isn't right" "it says I idle at 4,000, and it moves when I give it gas"

3: when connected to - term "does not work at all" "same as when connected to msd box"

Someone on the corral has the same problem, and they said it was the msd box.

Now I don't understand why it works on + "not correctly", and doesn't work at all on the -

GOD, and this really don't make sence cause I read the pdf and it says -........ well tomarrow is sat. so I guess I will mess with it in the daylight, but now I really think it is the tach...

I'm going to go over my wires tomarrow, but I really don't think it's the wires. I think the tach itself isn't taking the signal in. I am going to call Auto meter tom. "there probubly not open", and I am going to call them monday and get ready to ship back after I speak with them about it.....

    This sucks.... hehe
