    Opinions on combo

    Hey all-

My car is getting close to being finished and I was hoping to get your opinions on the engine combo. This car will be a street car (city and freeway driving) that gets road raced at the occasional open track event. I may shift it as high as 7000rpms; although, I'm not sure if I'll need or want to.

    The car:
    -65 Mustang fastback
    -Full Griggs GR-350 suspension
    -T56 (Mustang, not Viper version)
    -3.7:1 9"
    -275's (in the future)
-sub frame connectors and 6pt rollbar
    -12&13" Baer PBR discs

    The engine:
    -Dart block 348 (302 based)
    -8.5:1 cr
-Custom Comp Cams hydrolic roller: int-286/570, ex-294/579
-AFR 205's with a little exhaust porting
-Holley Systemax II (EFI) - cleaned up and port matched
-Novi 2000 with 9-10 lbs of boost
    -1 3/4 long tube headers

What do you guys think about this engine combo?

    Thanks-
    Craig

    Ian-

The only pics I have are taken last week (just got a digital camera) while the car was at Griggs (still there). The photos are of the suspension with no engine and tranny. You can find them here - http://members17.clubphoto.com/craig...34/guest.phtml

What do you think of the engine combo? Too much head?

    Thanks-

If its a streetcar revving a 348 to 7000 doesn't sound like you want the rings to last. You're probably going to see increased ring wear. If you are stepping to a Dart block why not go to a 351 if you want the added cubes. Having a 65 fastback myself I know they make headers just for this application.

sweet! this will be awesome! FWIW I think the general opinion on the size of the intake is a little conservative. I think this will run very well. @ 6000 rpms with a Novi 2000 you may not "need" to shift that high. Espicially if you get a the correct custom cam for you motor.

Please post pics and/or videos when done!
89 Coupe with parts stacked inside of it and about 30#'s of dust on it with no end in sight. :weird:

    Although I am collecting parts for a 12.5:1 393 :D

    Ian-

No problem. I'm excited about the new camera.

The reason I'm asking about this engine combo is because most over at Corner-Carvers.com think the AFR 185's would be better. The local people I talk to don't neccasarilly agree.

Part of the decision (205's) had to do with traction. With 500-600rwhp, I don't know if a little low end loss will be a bad thing. I just hope it's not too much of a low end loss.

The 205's are the way to go 100%. You will not regret your choice at all.

Even given that this is a street/open track dual purpose car and one that will probably never be dragged?

Criag the AFR head will make tons of power, and will work just fine with what you want to do with the car.

The 185's are too small, 225's are too big, the 205's are just right :)
