Thinking of getting a part time job.

Ideas, impressions, suggestions, all welcome. :)

This has all stimmed from the fact that I wasn't very happy with my final pay stubb for the year. Man I didn't make near what I feel like I should. 21k before taxes isn't enough to make a living on for anyone as far as I'm concerened. And since I don't see the chance for a drastic pay increas or advancment, I have to do somthing.

So I'm thinking a part time job for starters would be a good idea just so I don't have to rely on the current full time job so much. I think I want to learn something that I can take with me. knowledge being the main source of income, and the money only being a biproduct. That way I may be able to support myself while in school, or build a half decent career.

So I need some ideas. I was leaning towards somthing like body work, machine shop, mobile locksmiting, or somthing of the sorts. Give me some ideas. This is just somthing I want to do a couple nights a week, and on the weekends. Any who, thanks for listening.

OH, and the extra money would be nice as well. :D

Machine shops are very loud. If you value your hearing, you may want to rethink that as an option ;)

I work in a printing factory and loud is absolute where i'm @. Ear plugs are the only thing that keep me sane. Body work dosen't pay squat unless you have your own business. Good luck. I have a job that i can work unlimited overtime and sometimes i take it for granted but i work alot of friday, saturday and sunday nights to pay for the stang habbit.

hmmm, I don't need to make alot of money, just enough to make the actual idea of working a part time job worth while. Learning somthing would be the main idea really.

    Brandon

hmmm, I work about 20 to 60 hours of overtime a month, but I'm salary, so it doesn't amount to a hill of beans really.

Are there any stang performance shops/tuners in your area? Maybe you can intern there as a resident grease monkey or resident grease monkey's assistant. I have a buddy who just started out at a local shop here in SA as "Shop Technical Assistant" in short, his job duties are basically a combination being a "parts runner, assistant to the mechanics, answers the phones, and keeps the shop clean".

Hell, for $9.50 an hour is not bad considering he gets to hang around fast cars all day and cruise the shop's 11 sec daily driver stang (auto :) )to pick up parts and what not...

What are you more partial to at this point Brandon?

I don't really now chris. Something that deals with me using my hands and not being stuck behind a desk or what not. All the stang shops around here are not really places I would like to work for. Not very reputable at all really. It'll have to be nights and weekends too since I work m-f 7:30 to 5:30

This is gonna really limit you, most shops are M-F type operations. You may want to think about an autoparts store, they are open w/e's and nights plus you may be able to get a decent employee discount :D

Downside would be having to deal with the public.
