Installed a Powerpipe - Does the Computer Need to Learn?

Installed a Powerpipe - Does the Computer Need to Learn?

    This is weird.

Car has a Vortech S-trim blown 347 with a C&L maf, 42# injectors, and a dyno-tuned autologic chip from the same combo, but with a Powerdyne blower - it runs perfect.

I installed a powerpipe to the mix on Sunday. (C&L is clocked at 2:30) position). At first the car started, but idled erratically, but after a few minutes the idle smoothed out to a perfect 800-900rpm. I revved the gas a few times and it was crisp and smooth.

I did not have time to go for a test drive, but all seemed fine.

    Monday:

Drove the car to work, the car idled fine, but drove like it had a miss, it stumbled bad during normal driving pulling away from a stop and at low speeds. It pulled smooth and hard above 3000rpms. It behaved the same on the way home.

    Tuesday -

I did not drive it to work, I wanted to check it out on the weekend, but at night a buddy stopped over and wanted to check it out.

I started it up and took him for a ride. PERFECT, no stumble, no problems.

    What is the deal???

Very Interesting. When i switched over to a Powerpipe when i have my Paxton VR4 i never encountered any problems like that. My car has always bucked and stumbled a little if driving in like 1st at 2500-2600rpm, but i think its just the combo with my cam not wanting to be that low in the rpm's...?

btw... you said you have your C&L clocked....is there a reason for this? Im running a Pro-M MAF and not sure if im supose to have it clocked a certain way or not?

    Paxton -

Pro-Ms are not as finicky as C&Ls, C&Ls have to be clocked at 2:30-3:00 in order to idle properly, especially in supercharged combos.

    BTW -

Car ran like **** again this morning.

If I put the maf in the engine compartment (straight) all is fine, it runs better than a stock 5.0, tilt it on an angle in the fenderwell and it runs like ****.

I think I would rather have it run perfect in the engine compartment and lose the 10-20rwhp I might gain from the cooler air.

    What do you think???

I am thinking of actually putting a heat shield around the maf in the engine compartment and running some flex hose from under the front bumper right to the filter to get some cool air in there.

    Also, I think my C&L is a 76mm or a 80mm???

It is clocked at 2:30, but it is on an angle.

My new 42# 80mm Pro-M is going in the fender on a powerpipe, I spec'd it out for naturally aspiration and a cold air intake system to minimize tuning problems.

If it works best under the hood I would run it there too. You should be able to find a shield to keep fan wash off the filter & sensor.

My buddy slow5.0 came over today.

Worked like crazy to get the car to run with the powerpipe and.......

    GUESS WHAT???

We ended up putting the mass air and filter back in the engine bay.

Does anyone want to buy a UPR Powerpipe???

Next up, the billet flow tensioner and 3.12" blower pulley....

    Wish me luck!
