Best bet for good manners with 42s is go with custom programming (chip, tweecer/tuner, PMS etc) along with a 90mm Lightning meter.

Note: you CANNOT run 42s and Lightning meter WITHOUT the custom programming. The reason being, the Lightning meter is not "recalibrated" to fool the stock processor like all the usual aftermarket meters will.

But with the custom programming, you get the best metering available: the Lightning meter is accurate at low flow levels like idling, yet has plenty of headroom on the top end.

The usual aftermarket meters are built to work within the parameters of the stock programming, so even WITH custom programming the aftermarket meters are not as good resolution-wise on the bottom end as the big oem meter.
