    Inspection

I pulled the front case off to inspect the vr4 that I recently purchased since I have to rotate the outlet. The balls and races are in good shape. How easy should it be to turn the impeller? It isn't very loose. It can be turned with a rachet, but not with my fingers.

Thanks, but I wanted to Know if the impeller should spin easily with the front cover off.

Well, it's the pressure on the balls that makes for the resistance so, if you alleviate that, it will naturally spin really easily.

It needs to be tested assembled, as DD says. His rating is for assembled, pump primed, seals in drag, as I understand it. If it's less than that, it'll slip and wear the balls and/or shaft out.
