    Pulley question

I was curious if you can run a 10 rib setup (fox body) without modification?
    Also I know it's not an exact science,depends on the motor,but what type of boost approximately will I see with a YS w/ 6.87 crank and 2.95 pulleys on a 331? I also have a 3.70 pulley,all 8 rib.Anyone have a similar setup?

As for the 10 rib question YES (sortof)! Need to trim fan shroud and depending on size of crank pulley (8") put a cobra water pump pulley on. Think that is all. But if your running those big SC pullies stay with the 8 rib setup.

    6.87 and a 2.95 ~10-11 psi
I don't think the YS will like to be spun that slow, however.:weird:

I'm not going to spin the YS that slow, just trying to figure what pulleys I need to get around 18-20 lb. or better.

What do you mean by that? Can you elaborate?

I probably need to go with the 8" crank pulley is what I was thinking, unless I can get it done with a smaller charger pulley by itself.

If your looking for 18-20 psi you will need the 3" & 8" pullies. You may then want to get the 10 rib setup. I made 16 psi with those pullies on my 351 and YSI. I made 20 with a2.7 on top. Started running into slippage issues. So I am now going to 10 rib setup. I had a 8.5" crank made so I can run a 3.13 SC pulley. Looking for ~20-22psi.

I thought you were only looking to make like 10 psi. My bad!

how can any of those questions be answered if you dont list what rpm the motor will be turning. There would be a big difference in a 6k rpm car and an 8k rpm car.

Sorry for the delay in responding,I didn't get an e-mail??

I think I'm only going to turn the motor to about 65-7000.I'm unsure because I have not started it up yet.I'll find out I guess when I'm on the dyno. It's an R based 331 w Victor Jr. heads and an extruded honed Trick Flow R intake.I'm running the hydraulic roller yet and the cam is an Ed Curtis cam ground for that rpm.

I have a chance to buy a cog setup at a decent price,74/30 should I go this route? The car will be mainly used for street duty with some trips to the track. Also they are the ASP versions.Should I stay with the Vortech brand so I can install the strut support at a later date,or can you get by without it running cogs?

Wow, my numbers were based on ~6,000 RPM's. If your planning on mostly street use, with limited track I'd stay away from the cogs. Just my opinion though.

I ended up buying the 77/27 cog pulley's.Does anyone have a larger charger pulley,I'm afraid this setup will be to much? I wish I would have just went with a 10 rib setup.

I have a 50mm cogged pulley 34T for a YSi. Im in the UK though.

I wont be using it, as I am going for a 10/12rib option with ASP machining my crank pulley to suit. They are putting 14 grooves across my crank and making custom 12 groove pulleys. It gives me the option of running 8/10/12 depending on what belts are available.

The cogged kit I was sold for my LS1 was a joke.

With those I'd imagine you'd be over 20 psi.

I'm going to try and find a larger charger pulley.Would a 34T be about right spinning it to around 6400 rpm? I'm going to keep the 77T lower.Anyone intrested in a 27T cog?

It's a tough call. You''ll be spinning the blower at 50,000 rpm's, this is lower than what that blower likes. I would say you'll probably want the 32 tooth. That will put you closer to 53,130 rpm's and probly th 18 psi. If your not too concerned with boost the 30 will put you at 56,672 closer to 20 psi. The 30 may be a better option. Plus probably easier to find one used. It hard for me to realy say. Since all my experience is with serp setups. With the cog there is no slip. So you'll make more boost than a comprable serp set up. In theroy my 8" and 2.7 spun my YSi at 61,333 RPM at 6000 and made 20 psi. But there definitly is slipping going on.

I know CAPA in OZ have a range of Vortech cogs, 28/30/32/34T, as that is where I got mine from.

Although I would never give them any money again, after the service and product I got from them being very wrong for my engine, and making no attempt to resolve the matter.

But each individual part of the kit was good quality, it just wouldnt all work together.

I decided to sell my 35 mm cogs and go with the 8 rib and strut support.
I found a guy that has a 8" crank and 2.95 charger for sale.I have my cogs on ebay if anyone is interested.
