    Ysi and 5 speed?

I have heard over the years that a ys-trim and 5 speed dont work to good bc the are lazy down low and need to be revved past 4500 to feel any power. Is this true? Say if you had 373s and a 408 with a ysi? Would it still be a pig under 4000 if you were making around 15psi? Or would a T-trim be the way to go.

I would like to make some good numbers but I really want mid 10s and good performance. How much boost will a ysi make and a 408 with a 8in and a 3.00 pulley? Is 8 rib better than 10.

A good running 408 without a blower will go mid 10's. Good heads like AFR 225's or TFS R's, the proper intake and a custom cam with the aformentioned blower should have no problem making 600rwhp and tq with the pulleys you mentioned.
89 Coupe with parts stacked inside of it and about 30#'s of dust on it with no end in sight. :weird:

    Although I am collecting parts for a 12.5:1 393 :D

How will the power be in the 2500-4000 range? Any ideas? Heads are stage 2 vic jrs and a ported vic jr intake. You think I will have any belt slip with that setup?

the idea of lack of power down low is usually a misunderstanding. the care makes alot less power down low compared to the top end so people say it doenst make any. it still make a **** load more than before just is a major differnce between the low and high rpm ranges.

Thanks for the info. I just dont want to get a blower that has to be spun to the moon to feel any power. I think the ysi will be a good fit for a 408 street car as thats where this car will spend most of its time.

I agree the with the 408 you will have a ton of torque anyway. I use a 331 with a T trim and she made peak [power at 5700 but it was only a 331. She was a torque monstor she made 608 trq at 5000 and 400 ft lbs at the tire by 2600 rpm. I think a 408 with a T-trim would be another torque monstor but she may only make power to 5000 or something like that before she ran out of steam. With my b4 cam I thought for sure mine would pull to 6500 and she didnt come close. Mine didnt fall fast I lost like 5 to 10 hp by 6000 but she was falling.
