BEEN GONE FOR A BIT. LATEST STATUS.PULLED HEADS FOR SPRING CHANGE,ONE CRACKED BEYOND REPAIR. PULLED OTHER,BLOWN HEAD GASKET BETWEEN #4 AND#6. NOT A GOOD DAY. DUG OUT A PAIR OF OLD 906'S I HAD RAT HOLED,AND HAD THEM GONE THRU. SETTING INSTALLED SPRING HEIGHT, NEEDED .030'' AND .040'' SHIMS. ANOTHER SMALL TOWN STORY,NONE TO BE FOUND. WENT TO SUMMIT,ALL GM SHIMS WITH .750'' ID , I NEED 1.036'' ID.FOUND SOME IN A SMALL SHOP JUST DOWN THE ROAD, "SO THATS WHAT THOSE WASHERS ARE FOR,TAKE ALL YOU WANT".THAT WAS A GOOD DAY. WITH THE HEADS OFF, SHOPPED FOR SOME HEAD GASKETS. BOUGHT SOME HUSSEY .100'' COPPER, WILL DROP COMPRESSION RATIO TO 7:1.THIS WEEKEND SHOULD HAVE HEADS ON AND BACK ON TRACK.

you can change the valve springs on the motor by filling the cylinder with nylon 1/4" rope 12ft of it.using a v spring tool to press the spring against the rope in the cylinder after you squish it to the top with the piston.

I DRAIN THE ENGINE AFTER EACH USE THRU VALVES INSTALLED IN THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK,BELOW THE FREEZE PLUGS. TO FILL THE ENGINE I PRIME IT AT HOME,AND IT STARTS PUMPING AT THE LAKE RIGHT AWAY.DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED,LAST TIME IT RAN, IT HAULED ***.STACKED UP THE BLOWER LAST NIGHT TO CHECK BELT AND ALTERNATER BELT ALIGNMENT. CHARGING BELT OFF ONE FULL PULLEY GROOVE,TO CLOSE TO ENGINE. CHECKED TWO STOCK AND ONE AFTERMARKET PULLEY,NONE WITH A GROOVE THAT CLOSE TO THE ENGINE. I'M PAST GETTING EXCITED OVER THE SMALL STUFF, WILL CALL DYERS IN THE MORNING. DRIVE BELT SEEMS TO SHORT ALSO, COMPARED TO THE PICTURES IN THE BDS BOOK. CAN HARDLY GET IT ON, LET ALONE PUT ANY PRESSURE ON IT WITH THE IDLER PULLY. AT WHAT CLOCK POSITION IS YOUR IDLER PULLEY?

the adjuster is between 7 and 8.mine is tight too but the adjuster is just to keep the belt from flapping around on the slack side.i think i only have 1/4 to 3/8 gap before adjusting.
