331 or 347 stroker???? Users step on in!

    Opinions please!

Next year i want to run a 302 based DART block stroker w/ a 76 mm turbo :guess:

and shoot for about 1000 HP--- 0 balanced!! I plan to have a custom cam made and want to keep it very streetable as it was. I am planning the TFS Box-R upper and a good set of ported heads. (??)

Shouid I go 331 or 347. From what i have heard(not sure the truth behind this) that with the long stroke on the 347 high RPM's aren't the best idea for it. But what are considered high RPM's? 8500? I would imagine my shift RPM's will be ~ 6800-7000 at the track. that being said is it too much for the 347.

Let me know what ya think!

guys run 347 and a hair more in the hot street classs and rve m to 8500-9000 rpm so id say thats not necessarily true. I dont recall the exact stroke # but one that is commonly used is not correct. Sorry i cant help you.. If your looking for a custom cam try contacting Cam master jay hes very knowledgable and helpful with all of what your asking. www.CamshaftInnovations.Com

Here is how i did it...I run a Dart block...bored out 4.125 and the stroke of a 331 (3.250)....best of both worlds! BTW Dart blocks can be bored 4.185!!....oh yea mine is a 8.2 deck so all my other stuff works like headers...intake etc.

I rev mine to 7k no problem...thats with a Trick Flow stage 2 cam and Trick FLow C&C ported 205's with 15# at 6k ( at the track 7k) I made around 600rwhp thru a C4 auto...but i trap 141 wich equals about 700rwhp....I have 83# injectors and a smaller pully to go!

    Thanks for the replies.

I may be going 363. It appears no one has issues w/ the 347's so I may go that routwe and then go the 363!

So how much room does the 363 allow to later bore or hone the walls again?

Any cooling issues w/ going a 4.125 bore?

No cooling issues with a dart block. With that stroke, I think you can go up to 385 ci.

I know i've heard of guys going 4.155 on the darts and I bet they'd even go 4.175 but i'd ask them for sure. I certainly wouldn't be affraid to go 347 steve. The myths that say the 347 aren't reliable, oil burners are exactly that. Myths. Shooting for 1000 hp is pretty serious. I'd say you might even need a set TEA, TFS R heads. Although I bet AFR 225's would get you there. Put my shortblock together yesterday.:D

I've got a Dart 331. No cooling issues at all. I only have a wimpy S-trim. I just put a C-4 in the so hopefully it will pick up some from the TKO

He just needs some more seat time and should hit the9's. The c-4 is new to him this year to from the 5 speed!

    How would a T-trim work on a 408? 650rwhp possible with a C4?

I think this would be attainable with a C4. But don't get too caught up in dyno numbers. If it only shows 580rwhp and traps @ 140 mph, who cares what the dyno thinks!:D 408's need the big parts though to perform correctly. Afr 225's, TFS R heads, super victor intakes, 600-650 lift, ect.....

Well I was gonna build a 10.6-1 410 and put a 175 fogger on it but now I am thinking about a T or ys. I have a comp 248/258@.50 .608/.608 cam and a ported vic jr intake. No heads yet but I would have to use the 70cc vic jrs to keep my comp and 9-1. They would have to be ported I know. I have a 3550 now to, just thinkin c4. Would you go with the fogger or go for the blower?

Personally I'd build a 13:1 410 and put the 175 fogger on it. Cause nitrous and pump gas scares the crap out of me. With that being said, if you have to run 112-116, then why not make it big compression? Same goes for the blower setup.
