timing?

what does everybody run timing wise with their set up ? I know every set up is different . just curious to see what every one is running.. set up with best times also please... ( 306, windsor sr heads, GT40 intake,comp xe274,42 lb inj,10 *, two belt 1000,t-5,8 lbs of boost,3200 lb, 12.3@121.98)

well, with a 363.5ci motor afr185 heads and a comp xe274hr cam I made 460rwhp with a novi 1000 at 8psi, (powerpipe and 3" blower pulley) with the few passes I made before I dropped a valve I ran a 11.40@123mph, and with a 150 shot spinning it ran a 10.71@131mph. oh ya, rpm2 intake and 60# injectors tuned my me and a pms.

how do you like that RPM2 intake? i wonder how much i am losing top end wise with my GT-40..

its alright, but for my combination I should have went with a trickflow r lower and box upper or a victor 5.0.

do you run a boost retard ? or just have base timing set ? if so what do you run your base timing at?

I use a pms for tuning, so my base is set at 10 degrees and I use the pms to adjust the timing.

With your combo I would max your timing at 21* at WOT to start.

so how much does the computer advance ? is it the same across the board no matter what the base is set at ?

No the timing varies. I have seen my timing table max at 34*@ 6000rpm one time and 42*@6000 rpm the next. You really need a tuning device or a timing computer to remove or max out your timing at a set rpm. Your engine load is going to change so does your timing. If you remove the timing plug and set the timing at 21* locked it will be safe but drive like crap because not enough timing. I myself have been using the PMS for 19 years now, it is dependable and easy to use and has great support for beginners.

well i have had a Tweecer for almost two years now and havent really even touched the thing....oh well... money well spent ?...looking back i could have spent that $500 on something else...

Tweecer will work fine, it just is not my choice since it does not use a MAP sensor to adjust timing with boost but you can lock timing with rpm. Big benefit to learn to use it.
