    Unhappy Throwing Belts

I have now thrown 2 blower belts in the last month and it's starting to piss me off? I am using a 58.5 belt but I did a little search on the subject and see where people are using a 59 inch belt. Would this make a difference?

It is the revised 1000 with a Vortech 8 inch Renegade crank pulley. The pulleys are tight and appear to be aaligned. Any other suggestions??

pupdog, does it rub the water pump pulley? you flip the tensioner over and run the longest belt you can to get it by the water pump pulley.
89 Coupe with parts stacked inside of it and about 30#'s of dust on it with no end in sight. :weird:

    Although I am collecting parts for a 12.5:1 393 :D

I don't think it's hitting the water pump pulley, it's a 93' Cobra unit. I will check that though. I am thinking of getting a torque bar. It seems to throw it just after shifting hard Does anyone run a torque bar?

I don't know of anyone that needs one with the new 2 belt novi. if it rubs the water pump pulley at all i think it would jump a rib and from there it would fly off. How tight are you putting them on? Are you certain your not at your tensioner limit? cause when you get to the limit you can flip it over and get some more throw out of it.

Well I think I know why it was throwing belts. The crankshaft is now sticking about 2 inches out of the front of my oil pan. Stopped about a hair short of my new Ramchargers and Fluidyne. I should have known something was wrong. For about a month my oil pressure was doing some weird stuff. It was reading on the low side at idle and would go all the way to zero. If I gave it a little gas it would come right back up to low normal. I had assumed that was a sender issue. Apparently not :(

The belt throwing was another sign. Oh well, now I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do. I have $5,000 to put something back in. I think I want a 331 short block with AFR 185's. I don't want to build it, I just want to order a completed shortblock. I have got it narrowed to DSS, X2C, and CHP. I think I want the B50 block as that is all the budget will allow. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please comment on the carnage and the shortblock issue :)

I will post pics of the carnage in a day or 2......

I want to see pics. And, from what I've heard, CHP is the place to go.

    Here are some pics:

    Looking up from the bottom

Looking up and towards the front by oil sender

    Close to the Ramchargers

I started pulling stuff off today like the Novi and brackets. Tried to pull the distributor which would not budge. I could turn it, but I could not pull it. I can't wait to see the guts. :D I am actually a little happy over all this. I am getting stroked now baby!!!

If ya have a 5k budget, talk to Brian with Ad Performance and see what he can do for you parts wise, then find a local shop and have them give you a price on the machinework/assembly. For 5k you should come out with a nice lower end and a set of AFR's.

Wow I have not seen that before.

As Sean said Brian is great IF you have a local shop that can do the shortblock for you. If you do not I would use Keith Craft from what I have read.
