A bypass valve allows air that is being forced on the output side (discharge) of the supercharger to be “relieved” and redirected through the intake side of the supercharger during deceleration. When the throttle valve closes the air that is being produced by the supercharger becomes compressed air and there is no ware for it to go so it puts an unnecessary load on the compressor and causes it to surge and heat up. Drivability is affected greatly when the compressor surges and can even cause the car to stall and idle erratically. The bypass valve is plumbed in to the discharge tube and then hooked up to the inlet tube, it is then hooked up to a vacume line. For your question about the mass air meters that are calibrated for blown applications they are typically calibrated richer to feed the higher fuel demands of supercharged engines.

As for your other question - a supercharger MAF is 12% richer @ WOT.

Some use it and some do not. I personally had mine done that way, and the car worked great!

If I were to do it again, I would get a Supercharged meter from Granatelli.

Pro M remote optimizer. You will never have a wrong MAF signal again. You tell it what you want it to do. Plus you can change injectors at will. I do not have one now but have used it in the past. I will be getting one to use on my C&L in the next few months.
