    blown head gaskets

My friend has a 93 GT with a DSS 306 with Holley heads, an E303 cam, a Holley intake, 38lb. injectors, and 2k miles. The combination ran 12.30s in NA form. After the installation of an S trim and a PMS, the #4 cylinder filled up with antifreeze. After getting the heads o-ringed, a head gasket change and a test run, the #4 cylinder again filled with antifreeze. I read that you have to purchase a basic program from Anderson for the PMS or the head gaskets will blow. Is there any truth to this or is it another problem? HELP

The car was running fine when we put the s-trim and PMS on. The PMS came with a startup program, but I read on this website or novipower about the program you have to buy from Anderson.

We installed the blower and PMS, took it for a spin and the leaking problem started. Same thing after the head o-ring and new head gaskets. The block is pretty much brand new with only 2K. The heads are also pretty new, with about 5k. I guess I'll take that passenger side head to a machine shop and have them magnaflux it for cracks.

How much boost you running? Whats the compression? What does the head gasket look like when you took it out the first time?

The car is putting out 14psi, with 8.5 comp. The head gasket looked ok when we took it apart.

I'd check the head and block for cracks. I'd look close where the head bolts go into the block maybe the crack is right there. I've seen that before. Let us know what you find out.

Check the head to see if it’s warped also.

Did y'all use thread sealer/locker on the head bolts? I've seen this cause problems. Are you sure it's not leaking from the intake manifold? I've also seen this, since #4 is right at a water jacket. Double check your intake manifold torquing procedure and use thread locker/sealer next time on the head bolts!

The PMS doesn't come with a start-up program since it is piggyback unit UNLESS you turn on the standalone, then it takes over at 4000rpms and or WOT. You can install the PMS and not touch it and the car will run on the stock EEC settings, so I don't see the PMS being the problem here. You get a program from Rick if you fill out the tech sheet and send it back to him and he will send you a start-up (very very very safe and slow) program. Did you do anything in the PMS like change any settings? What injectors does the car have? What kind of fuel pressure were you seeing under full boost?

We did use thread sealer and torqued everthing to specs. I believe he did change somethings on the PMS. The car has 38lb. injectors and had about 50psi of fuel pressure while on the throttle.

50lbs of fuel pressure at WOT doesn't tell me anything, without telling me the amount of boost the car is making.

Oops, I thought I'd put the boost in another reply. The s-trim is putting out 14lbs. of boost.

Yea your right, I didn't see that, sorry. Well in my opinion, with 36lb injectors and 14lbs of boost...50lbs of fuel pressure is not near enough. You'd need to be seeing upwards around 60-64lbs of fuel pressure as a good safe starting point.
