    30lbs injectors

Ok, I just got my new 30lbs injectors in today, and will hopefully install them tonight. My question is, what is a good starting point for fuel pressure? I am ditching the FMU, so that won't be an issue. I have the F-150 pulley on now, and I am seeing about 8psi @ 5800-6000rpm or so. I also have an intake, stock heads, powerpipe, exhaust, and a 255lph fuel pump. Any help is greatly appreciated. I should be at the track this sunday. Supposed to be 74* this weekend!!

Ok, here is an update of what happened tonight. We got the injectors put in, and the new sample tube for the C&L. Started the car, and the car idled great. Tried to adjust the fuel pressure to about 42psi, and it wasn't really moving. Forgot to remove my FMU like I wanted to. So we shut the car off, remove the FMU, plug that vaccum line, and start the car again. Idled like crap. Put the fuel at 42-43psi and took the car for a ride. Ran like crap. Sputtered, had absolutely no power, and acted like there was a huge vaccum leak, or the sample tube is the wrong one. Any ideas? I can't see removing the FMU as being the problem, but if it is, I can't see WHY it is the problem. Like I said, the car ran great before we removed it, with the 30 pounders in it.

    Thanks

    Chris

Chris did you put the sample tube in backwards?

I did this to my C&L once and it ran like crap X 10.

No the tube is in right. The slanted part facing forwards. Like i was saying, the car idled GREAT just prior to removing the FMU. Thats what has me stumped.....just doesn't make sense. :bang:

Well it looks like I fixed the problem today. i called Paxton and talked with one of their techs, he recommended that I keep the FMU even with the 30lbs injectors. Turns out my FMU can't be recalibrated, something about the FMU being silver instead of another color. How much for a new FMU? He said roughly $199. no thanks. I'll fix this myself. I called and talked to C&L got the specs on the sample tubes. Went ahead and ordered a new 30lbs sample tube just incase. I also find out from their techie that the 73mm C&L is "unstable" with the 30lbs injector/sample tube combo. "You should consider getting the 76mm" Sorry, I'm not made of money these days. I'll fix it myself.
I got home, turned the car on, let it idle for a few minutes, tried to drive it, same problems. Put the FMU back on, started it, tried to drive it, same problems. Played with the meter a little bit, started the car back up, and noticed a lot of black smoke coming out of the pipes at idle. Rap it up real quick and it causes a smoke screen. I turn the fuel pressure down from 42psi, to 31-32psi, take her for a ride, and laughed all the way to the gas station. Never once detonated, never once went above 40psi at full throttle, and sat at the 2nd bar on the A/F for rich. Its never done that at WOT. The car pulled a lot harder on the top end since it wasn't seeing 100psi of fuel from the FMU and the 19lbers. It's amazing what leaving the car alone over night to think about it can do. Next step is the dyno next weekend if they can get me in. Sorry for the long post, I am just happy I was able to figure this one out on my own without pulling out all of my hair over a week worth of work. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I am running at 4100ft at the track. Just went out on Sunday, about 78-80* out, and ran a 13.57 @ 100.6mph on my first run. The 2nd run gave me all kinds of problems, and ended my day. Nothing major, but I have some problems I need to try and fix. This high altitude has got to go.

chris , let me get this straight.....you run the 30lb injectors with the fmu and set the fuel pressure at around 31lbs. the paxton tech's told you not to get rid of the fmu? i live at sea level (fla.) what do you think my fuel pressure should be at with your same setup ?:bonk:

No I am not running my FMU. The car still isn't acting right. I installed by bypass valve today, and the car still runs like crap. i am going to put some 24lbs injectors in when i Get back from my training trip. This is starting to aggrivate me. If you have the same setup I do, and u r at sea level, I would guess start with 40psi and go from there...anybody else have a guess at that one?

Yes, you can run a FMU with 30lbers. I talked with Paxton and the guy said he runs one with his 42's. That sounds a little dumb to me, but hey, to each their own. You need to make sure your FMU is calibrated for the 30's though. If its not, call them, and they will tell you if your FMU is adjustable or not. If not, then you need to buy a new one, $200 I was told. No thanks, I will make it run without it.
